The U.S. Navy rescued 282 people from six small vessels in the Mediterranean Sea after one of the boats began to sink, the military said Saturday. Five of the rescued were medically evacuated Friday to nearby Malta, and the remaining 277 people were transferred to an offshore patrol vessel belonging to Malta's military, the U.S. Navy said.

At least 200 villagers may have died in Borno State after gunmen believed to be members of the extremist Boko Haram sect, but dressed in military uniforms attacked villages in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, government officials and eyewitnesses have said.
Thirty people, comprising 18 assembly members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), are in the United States of America to attend the International Legislators Exchange Programme in Columbia, South Caroline.
They will be accompanied by the Presiding Member and Coordinating Director of AMA, as well as 10 businessmen and women in the metropolis. They will be away for two weeks.

Cameroon's state radio reports that the military has killed at least 60 Boko Haram members who crossed over from Nigeria seeking refuge. According to the national radio, the heavily-armed militants, reportedly killed in the village of Dabanga in far northern Cameroon, crossed over from Borno State in Nigeria. They were then ambushed by Cameroonian soldiers the report said.
