- Five Togolese immigrants are sitting in a small basement room in Berwyn, IL. on Sunday, October 14. They have headphones on, looking a bit disheveled in their t-shirts and sweats. Three of the men are sitting at a round table speaking excitedly into a circular black microphone hanging in the center. On the walls are several clocks showing time in Lomé, Togo, Chicago, Paris, France and New York. It is 11 a.m. in Illinois, yet none of the men have slept for the past 10 hours. They have been up since 1 a.m., when the polling stations opened in Togo (at 6 a.m. Togo time). This is the FM Liberté team. The five men are radio broadcasting live on the internet the very first democratic elections in Togo in 49 years.
